چکیده

The potential for using airborne electromagnetic (AEM) methods for measuring water depth has been demonstrated from data acquired from several surveys over shallow coastal waters in Australia. These AEM surveys were undertaken using both fixed-wing time-domain and helicopter (time and frequency domain) commercial systems. Some survey data was also interpreted to delineate the bedrocksediment boundary which was in general agreement with marine seismic studies. These commercial AEM systems are designed for mineral exploration and are not optimized for marine surveying. Furthermore, these commercial AEM systems do not track the position of the towed sensor (bird). This research has now been extended by developing a helicopter time-domain AEM system (SeaTEM) which will include real-time kinematic tracking of the towed bird. Here we present data taken from the very first airborne trial over shallow water in Broken Bay (Australia). Preliminary interpretation of this dataset identifies the known bathymetry and depth to bedrock.

Laser Airborne Depth Sounder (lads):

LADS (Laser Airborne Depth Sounding) is a new laser bathymetric survey tool that has applicability in clear coastal (Case II) waters down to -70 m depth. The new sounding technique features rapid acquisition of large high-quality data sets via variable swath widths that are independent of water depth. This advanced airborne laser bathymetric (ALB) system was deployed along the southeast Florida...

Approximate resistivity and susceptibility mapping from airborne electromagnetic and magnetic data, a case study for a geologically plausible porphyry copper unit in Iran

This paper describes the application of approximate methods to invert airborne magnetic data as well as helicopter-borne frequency domain electromagnetic data in order to retrieve a joint model of magnetic susceptibility and electrical resistivity. The study area located in Semnan province of Iran consists of an arc-shaped porphyry andesite covered by sedimentary units which may have potential ...

Seafloor Topography Modelling in Northern Adriatic Sea Using Synthetic Aperture Radar

Underwater bottom topography may be visible on Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images through the radar signature of ocean surface currents. Using SAR images and a limited number of echo soundings it is possible to constructs accurate depth maps, greatly reducing the costs of bathymetric surveying. Based on shallow water bathymetry synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging mechanism and the microwa...

A GIS-based weights-of-evidence model for mineral potential mapping of hydrothermal gold deposits in Torbat-e-Heydarieh area

The method of weights of evidence is one of the most important data driven methods for mineral potential mapping in GIS. In this method, considering the characteristics of known mineralized locations, we can prospect new mineralized areas. In this research work, the method of weights of evidence has been used for hydrothermal gold potential mapping in Torbat-e-Heydarieh area, east of Iran. As a...

Derivative analysis of absorption features in hyperspectral remote sensing data of carbonate sediments.

This study uses derivative spectroscopy to assess qualitative and quantitative information regarding seafloor types that can be extracted from hyperspectral remote sensing reflectance signals. Carbonate sediments with variable concentrations of microbial pigments were used as a model system. Reflectance signals measured directly over sediment bottoms were compared with remotely sensed data from...
